Wonderful African Oils - Argan Oil

Argan oil is produced from the nuts of the argan tree found in Morocco, Algeria and Israel. This rare oil is highly valued because of its wide array of uses. It is highly priced owing to its limited production.  While the roasted oil is ideal for cooking, argan oil used for cosmetic purposes are unroasted to avoid its nutty scent.

For the skin: Argan oil contains antioxidant vitamin E, which helps the skin to heal and prevents it from premature aging. Applying the oil helps with scars from acne blemishes and chickenpox scars. It also has antimicrobial as well as pH balancing properties that help in reducing acne. Pregnant women can apply argan oil to prevent the onset of stretch marks. Argan oil is also known to hydrate the skin, neutralize free radicals, treat acne, eczema and psoriasis.

For the hair: Argan oil makes your hair stronger and healthy. It prevents split ends and manages frizzy hair. It restores shine and prevents hair loss and breakage from styling products.
As this oil is non-greasy, its application won't make hair look sticky and oily. If you have highly damaged hair, you can try using argan oil to restore its lost, natural luster and health.

When buying argan oil, make sure your ingredients say 100% argan oil. Many companies have been selling argan oil under various names including Moroccan oil. Some of these products contain very little argan oil and are full of synthetic ingredients. The term Moroccan oil is falsely used in order to claim the benefits of pure argan oil.

  1. Excellent advice. Totally agree!. It took me a while to find a really good brand that is actually argan oil. I tried 2-3 that I didn't even realise but were just full of chemicals with no argan oil at all. I use this one and wrote about my experience (if anyone is interested, I hope so) :) It's a really good one.
