Fasting Chronicles Day 19

Fasting Chronicles Day 19:

I thought the day would have started with pomp and pageantry, maybe some fireworks, but instead it started with weakness and fatigue. In my mind, I thought there would be this feeling of elation, a "wow" I can't believe it, I am so proud of myself, feeling. Instead, it feels like another fasting day, that I will have to see through, with absolutely no feelings of accomplishment, whatsoever. Not yet, anyway.

First thing I did, was put my soup on the slow cooker. I can't wait for it to be ready. I just hope it tastes as good as I think it will taste.

Today, was very simple lunches for the kids, strawberry and butter sandwiches. Egh! Sometimes as a mom, you have to.

After dropping off the kids, I stopped to buy some flowers and made my way to visit my friend. I am pretty excited to see her. I think it is going to be a good visit.
Got to her place and (to be honest) I felt like I was going on a first date. I took the flowers and rang her doorbell. We greeted each other with hugs and settled in for a nice long talk. Our conversation was about where we are now, what we are up to and what has been happening for the last few years. It was like no time had passed at all, in talking with her. Time, however, did go and before we knew it, an hour and a half had passed by and I had to get going.

Being the last day, I wasn't too strict about sipping on my mineral water that I had been given by my friend earlier. On the way home, I called the husband and asked if he wanted to go to the grocery store with me. I needed to pick up some stuff. Tonight, I am making the kids bean dip and pita chips. They will probably have that for dinner, and if they needed more, they could make pizzas with pita bread.

Back at home, checked up on the soup, which is starting to look delicious. Everything is cooking nicely and then we watched a movie before going to pick up the kids.

At the school, I was approached by a mom, who was quite intrigued about the fast. It's funny, that the question I have received most from people about this fast, is not 'why are we doing it'? but rather 'how are we doing it'? With children, businesses, everyday responsibilities and the both of us fasting, I will be honest, it has not been easy. Not by far. We piggy back off each other, if I am not doing well, he will drop off or pick up and vice versa. The only thing I do wish, was that it was the same for the mornings. The husband is a self professed late riser and therefore, lunches, snacks and breakfasts have been relegated to me. I am sure many mothers can relate to this.

Came back from picking up the kids and checked on my soup again. I added beans to the soup. It is looking and smelling awesome. The veggies are cooking down nicely and the broth has a nice yellow tinge to it from the fresh curcumin I added. So close, I can taste it.

Around 6pm, I poured the soup into two soup bowls and brought them to the table. I sat down with the husband, we held hands, prayed and thanked God for the fast and then we broke it.

BEST TASTING SOUP EVER!!!!!!! The cassava and carrots were tender, but not mushy. There was great flavour without being overpowering, and it was not too salty. The beans added just the right amount of texture. So good. As much as I wanted to wolf down my food, I knew I couldn't. There is a Taoist saying, "drink your food, chew your water", and this quote very much applied to this meal.

Well, the next three days or so will be spent on re-feeding and getting the digestive system going again. Training begins in a month and so I will have to focus on that soon.

These 19 days have not been easy. They have been quite challenging, but so worth it. I want to thank my fasting buddy (my husband), my family for their encouragement, everyone from my friends sending messages of encouragement, to the various shoppers we met and conversed with, who said we had piqued their interest in fasting and to the moms who wondered, how? Thank you so much for sending your positive thoughts, good vibes and warm energies my way. It made a huge difference in keeping my spirit up at times when I was so close to quitting.

I definitely have pledged to make some positive changes where food and my body are involved and this fast has brought this to light.

Until next time.

Thank you for reading and please share your comments (keep them open and constructive).
